| Ghaziabad was built by Ghazi-ud-din and named it as Ghazi-ud-din Nagar in 16th century which was rechristened as Ghaziabad by British later in 20th century. Due to long distance between Delhi and Meerut, Ghaziabad was used for resting by convoy of the Mughal Dynasty and hence developed the parts of now Old Ghaziabad.
Ghaziabad has been witness to mutiny against British in 1857 in Meerut, which crossed to Delhi through Ghaziabad.
Ghaziabad has the only underground base of the Indian Air Force known as Hindon Air Base, which played an important role in repelling the Pakistani Air force attack in 1971.
